On the 8th March 1945, a number of magicians living in and around York were called to a meeting in the Mansion House York, at the invitation of the Lord Mayor Councillor Mr. H.C. De Burgh, who himself was a magician. The purpose of this meeting was to form a Society of Magicians in the City. Six men were welcomed by the Lord Mayor and together they formed ‘The York Society of Magicians’
The Society flourished, first making its Headquarters at the Rechabite Building in York, and more recently The Red Lion on Boroughbridge Rd.

The society has a council who help organise the events of the year and sort out all the administrative duties. This year they are:
To become a member, please get in touch with us. We will then organise a date for you to come down and meet us for a chat. This is relaxed friendly event where you can tell us what you enjoy about magic and we can tell you a little more about the society.
If you like everything, you will be then asked to show a few tricks to our members.
We are a very friendly group of people, all who have an interest in Magic. Once you become a member, we all help each other to become better magicians.
